Bornfire celebrations

The traditional Guy Fawkes event will be held at the Beach Boulevard, with the action beginning at 6.30pm.

It will feature fireworks and fire jugglers as the prelude to the main pyrotechnic display at 7.30pm.

Free Park and Ride buses are available from Bridge of Don, Kingswells, and Altens with timetables available on the city council website.

Fiery displays will illuminate the skies across Britain to mark the 412th anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot- where Guy Fawkes and his conspirators attempted to assassinate King James I of England and VI of Scotland by blowing up the House of Lords.

Last year’s celebrations were tinged with disappointment for thousands of revelers after the council canceled the show just before 5pm.

The authority apologised and issued a statement, saying they “were extremely disappointed”, but that winds of up to 45mph would have put public safety in danger.

Lord Provost Barney Crockett said he was confident this year’s show would be one to remember.

He added: “I think this is a great event for the city and I would encourage everyone to come down and have a good time.

“It is always unfortunate that we have to deal with the weather and last year had to be unexpectedly canceled.

“But I think this year, everyone will really enjoy themselves in what is one of the top events in our calendar.”
